Salem grad and 2021 Cubs 6th round pick Riley Martin got his first professional work last night for Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans are the advanced A ball affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Martin worked the bottom of the 9th inning and struck the first two batters out in 7 pitches and got the 3rd out on a broken bat groundout to first base. The Pelicans knocked off the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 7-2. In the top of the 9th inning for the Woodpeckers, Mt Vernon grad Walker Brockhouse was the pitcher.
