Assistant Sandoval Police Chief Jake Delcour was presented a Life Saving Award for providing CPR that brought a Sandoval woman back to life last month.
The award was presented by Sandoval Fire Department EMT Matt Horn whose mother is alive today because of his actions.
“We stared looking for him and turns out he was doing CPR behind the camper and it happened to be my mom. And without his quick action and direct efforts she wouldn’t be here now. It’s amazing. He was responding to something different and he noticed she was distressed and administered aid. And all the doctors, specialists and cardiologists say she is a live today because of his direct efforts.”
Delcour says he found Julie Crippen sitting in a chair behind a neighbor’s home after initially being dispatched to the area for another problem.
“Went there to make contact with her and she was unconscious and couldn’t get a pulse or breathing. So we got her on the ground, initiated CPR and hollered at these guys to come help.”
Crippen says the last she remembers before the incident was coming out of a neighbor’s home where she was working and suddenly not being able to breathe. She was able to attract attention by waving her hands for help.
“Everything just happened so fast, it’s quite foggy. But when I started to come to, the first face I saw was Jakes. He was making me feel better. I saw my son’s face. I didn’t realize what had happened to me until several hours later in the hospital why my chest was sore, and learned that hero started CPR on me.”
Crippen later learned at the hospital she had a heart attack and a previously undetected arrhythmia. She has now been fitted with a pacemaker and defribulator and is recovering from the July 9th incident.
“Because of these two guys here I’m here today. And they are not going to get rid of me anytime soon.”
Horn presented Delcour the award at the Sandoval Village Board meeting Tuesday night where he was congratulated by village officials.
