Salem Grade to start school year for kindergarten students with open house on Sunday

By Bruce Kropp Aug 13, 2021 | 2:59 PM

A Sunday afternoon open house will begin the school year for kindergarten parents and students in the Salem Grade School District.

Hawthorn Principal Marty Adams says due to all the construction, things have been a bit challenging but they realize the importance of holding an open house for kindergarten students since this is their first experience with Hawthorn and they understand there may be some anxiety.    They hope the open house will help.

The open house this Sunday will allow parents and students to bring in supplies, meet the teacher and tour the classroom.  It is very important to bring supplies so students don’t have to carry them on the first day.

To keep low numbers of students/parents in the classrooms at a time and to deal with parking, they have set up a schedule based on the student’s last name.  It is very important that in order to accommodate all students/parents that the schedule is followed.  Masks will be required while inside the building.

Only two adults should attend with each student.  Siblings should not attend.

Last name begins with A-F      4:00-4:20

Last name begins with G-L      4:30-4:50

Last name begins with M-Z     5:00-5:20

You should park on the east side of the bus lane in front of the school or along the fence by the baseball field.  Please do not block the bus lane to allow people to leave when needed.

Parents/Students should enter through the teacher’s outside classroom door.  There will be staff on hand to help locate those classrooms.  After briefly visiting the classroom, they need parents to stop by and see the nurse and transportation table before leaving.
