Two people were airlifted from the scene of a crash on northbound I-57 nine miles north of Salem Friday afternoon.
State Police say preliminary information indicates a Jeep driven by 48-year-old Angela Alexander of Detroit, Michigan switched from the right lane to the left lane striking a vehicle driven by 71-year-old Gerald Hodges of Fort Worth, Texas. The impact caused the Hodges vehicle to go into the median and overturn
Both Alexander and a ten-year-old passenger from Detroit were air lifted from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Hodges and a passenger in his vehicle reportedly were not injured.
Alexander was ticketed for improper lane usage and driving with license suspended.
The crash occurred at 2:34 Thursday afternoon.
Kinmundy-Alma Firemen were called to the scene to assist. I-57 did not have to be closed during the cleanup.
