The Odin School Board rejected a high school boys basketball co-op with Patoka on a three to three vote Monday night after hearing passionate comments from both sides.

Board member Rudy Walker warned even if there were enough students to play this year, there probably wouldn’t be in the future. Board Chair Rod Hawley countered they really couldn’t predict the numbers but said he didn’t think those in the community would accept seeing Odin students in Patoka uniforms especially if Patoka agreed to play some games at Odin.

The board was told of the high school students likely to play, seven favored the co-op, and six were against the co-op. Joining Walker in voting to co-op were Patrick Dagg and Chris Haines. Joining Hawley in voting to keep their own team were Michael Hoover and Nancy Bechdoldt.

After a closed session, the school board hired its Junior High English Teacher Mike Murphy as head boys basketball coach.  Recently graduated Odin High Senior Kaiden Roberts will be the assistant coach.
