A 33-year-old Benton man, formerly from Odin, was killed in a Sunday morning motorcycle crash in Washington County.

Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger identified the victim as Brandon Metcalf.

Styninger says the crash occurred on Illinois State Route 127 at Mississippi Road.  He reports it appeared Metcalf was operating the motorcycle northbound when he struck a guardrail on the east side of the road at highway speed.  Metcalf was then thrown from the motorcycle approximately 35 yards.  Metcalf was not wearing a helmet and sustained massive head injuries.   The cause of death is listed as massive head trauma as a result of an accident.

Routine toxicology samples were taken, but there will not be an autopsy or inquest.

Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Fire, and Police Departments were all on the scene along with the Washington County Coroner’s office.

The coroner’s office was notified of the crash at 9:36 Sunday morning.
