State Police say a 27-year-old Kingwood, Texas man has died in an early Saturday morning wrong-way crash on eastbound Interstate 64 at milepost 81.5 in Jefferson County.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that the 27-year-old Texas man was driving the wrong way, westbound in the eastbound lanes when he swiped an on-coming SUV driven by 42-year-old Robert Allison of Fairfield. The Texas man continued westbound following the initial crash and then struck a semi-truck driven by 37-year-old Tonya Lovette of Albany, Georgia. The wrong way vehicle then rolled and ran off the pavement into the center grass median.
The Texas man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.
Allison and a passenger in his SUV, 18-year-old Lauren Schultz of Carmi, were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The crash occurred at 2:23 Saturday morning.
