Illinois is boosting efforts to attract and support more early childhood teachers.
State Board of Higher Education Executive Director Ginger Ostro says the new law creates a consortium of Illinois Colleges and Universities that will make it easier for child care workers to earn an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree.
“This is what our early childhood teachers told us what they want. They want opportunities to grow and learn, but they want to be able to do it while still teaching, caring for their families, and supporting their communities. Through this program, we will make all of this possible.”
Additionally, Governor JB Pritzker is announcing $200-million in federal funding for training and scholarships.
