Salem Police say the arrest of a 23-year-old St. Peter woman on drug and weapons charges started as a complaint early Monday night of a woman allegedly waving a handgun in the 1000 block of North Howard.
Chief Sean Reynolds says upon arrival, officers found a woman sitting in a vehicle in the driveway of a home. As a safety precaution, police had a woman later identified as Hailey Sarchet exit the vehicle and took her into protective custody.
As police looked into the vehicle, they reportedly found a large amount of cannabis in plain view. A further look allegedly showed other drug related items.
Based on the drugs, Reynolds says officers conducted a more detailed search and located a handgun that was determined to be stolen out of Vandalia.
At that point, Sarchet was arrested for possession with intent to deliver 30 to 500 grams of cannabis and possession of a stolen firearm.
Sarchet remains in the Marion County Jail pending a decision on formal charges.
