The Salem High School will be looking for a new head basketball coach with the resignation of Andy Fehrenbacher from the bench last night at the School Board Meeting.

Fehrenbacher joined the Wildcats in the 2015-16 season.  After a slow start through his first two seasons getting his system put in place, Fehrenbacher had seemingly had Salem turning a corner with seasons of 18-10 and then 18-13 in 2018 and 2019 before the Covid season of 2020.  In Fehrenbacher’s tenure, Salem was a combined 58-71.

Fehrenbacher told WJBD/WSIQ Sports Director Toby Gullion.

“I’d like to thank the administration and board for giving me the opportunity to coach here the past 6 years.  i’d also like the thank my assistant coaches for all their hard work and dedication to the program.  I want to thank the boys I’ve coached here, as I will always have fond memories of the time I was given to work with them and get to know them.  Lastly I’d like to thank all the supporters of our basketball program, I will always appreciate those individuals.  I just felt it was the right time for me to step away from coaching.”

Also last night, the board accepted the resignation of assistant coach Josh Lusch leaving Salem with just two coaches on staff in Greg Bass and Pete Colclasure.
