Carlyle Police say a 33-year-old Iuka motorcyclist and four occupants of a car were injured in an early Sunday night crash on State Route 127 near the Priority Care facility on the north end of Carlyle.
The crash occurred when a northbound car driven by 27-year-old Melanie Lockridge of Chicago made a left-hand turn in front of a southbound motorcycle driven by Lawrence Gordon of Iuka. Police say the motorcycle hit the passenger side of the car after it failed to yield the right of way, ejecting Gordon from the bike.
The motorcyclist and the front seat passenger of the car were transported to St. Louis University Hospital by medical helicopter for treatment. Lockridge and two minor children in her car were all transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese for treatment of their injuries.
The Carlyle Fire Department, Medstar Ambulance Service, Breese Ambulance Service, Washington County Ambulance Service, and Arch Helicopter Ambulance all responded to the scene to assist the crash victims. Illinois State Police also responded and conduct a traffic crash reconstruction investigation.
