Kell, Salem, Jefferson Fire Protection District, Xenia, Brownstown, and Addieville Fire Departments are all receiving Small Equipment grants from the State Fire Marshal’s office.

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Governor JB Pritzker say there were a total of 154 grants awarded statewide totaling $3.5-million.

The Kell Fire Department is getting $25,752 in new equipment.  Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld says they will receive four new Automatic External Defribulators, a new thermal imaging camera to find hot spots behind walls, 18 sets of boots, and three sets of turnout gear.   He reports the boots and turnout gear will bring the equipment of all firemen up to date.

The Salem Fire Protection District will receive $14,580 in equipment.  Training Officer Greg Miller says the funds will allow the purchase of a gear washer and extractor that will do a better job of cleaning contaminants from the fire gear.    He reports it will replace an old washer that was not efficient.

The Jefferson County Fire Protection District will receive a $25,752 grant for eight sets of turnout gear and eight SCBA oxygen bottles.   The new gear will bring all members of the department up to date.

Other area fire departments slated to get money are the Xenia Fire Department, $20,175; Addieville Fire Department, $25,724; and Brownstown Fire Department, $15,700.
