The Salem Community High School Board Monday night received an update on summer improvement projects.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering announced the nine old poles and lighting at the football field have been removed and have been replaced by four new poles. New LED lighting is still being installed and is expected to be completed early next month.
Detering is pleased with the looks of the new lights and is looking forward to the new lights extending lighting into the parking near the football field and to the area behind the stadium.
Detering reported work on resurfacing the track should begin July 6th.
He told the board work was also underway on renovation of the band and chorus rooms. Detering is still optimistic the work can be completed by near the start of school.
Principal John Boles announced 72 students are earning missed credits from the last school year during summer school. An English class has already ended while two math classes are underway.
In personnel action, the board accepted the resignation of Chris Sexton as girls soccer coach. Pat Lobek has been appointed assistant football coach. He had also served as an assistant coach from 2003 to 2010. Ivy Balla was named chair of the social studies department.
Non-certified personnel not covered under contract were given a three-and-a-half percent raise for the coming school year.
