The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is seeking charges against a 37-year-old Salem man in connection with a Saturday night armed robbery at Biggies on Route 161 at Interstate 57.

Investigator Anthony Decker says Jarid Walker of Indiana Street is currently at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of injuries sustained in a crash while attempting to elude Centralia Police early Monday morning.

Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson says an officer attempted a traffic stop after spotting a car matching the description of the one involved in the armed robbery and noting the man driving had the same clothing description of the person being sought.   Instead of stopping, the car fled from Fifth and Chestnut, eventually going southbound on US 51 until it missed the T-intersection at Route 15 in Ashley and crashed into the roadside ditch.

Decker said the video of the car and suspect were pulled from video surveillance.   The department believes Walker acted alone in the armed robbery.

A man reportedly displayed a handgun and took all the money out of the cash register when entering Biggies at 11:20 Saturday night.   There were no injuries in the armed robbery.
