More than 60 people met with potential employers at the Salem Job Fair held at the Kaskaskia College Salem Education Center Wednesday morning.
Salem Economic Development Director Tabitha Meador was unsure what to expect because of the tight job market.
“We are very happy with how today turned out. We had a steady stream of interested employees. Many of the employers were also happy with the potential workforce that showed up. But I’m hopeful that in the future we can host another job fair to showcase the open positions in Salem and the close surrounding area. It is an ongoing problem that as Economic Development Director I would like to see us fulfill some of the local positions and work with some of our local manufacturers who are here.”
Manufacturers seemed to have attracted the most interest among the job seekers, but most of the 25 businesses set up reported receiving at least some applications.
The Job Fair was co-sponsored by The City of Salem, Kaskaskia College, and WJBD-WSIQ Radio.
