The Centralia City Council has approved new equipment to better clean the fire department’s fire hoses following a fire.
Fire Chief John Lynch explained how the equipment worked.
“Historically we’ve had to wash it on the apron. Just laying it on the ground it doesn’t get real clean. That’s the way it’s always been done. This will allow it to be run through a washer and automatically roll which also will eliminate the possibility of shoulder and back injuries. In winter time we have to do that outside and makes the apron Icey. This not only helps with hose maintenance but also helps with liability.”
The council agreed to waive the bidding requirements and make the purchase from Municipal Emergency Services.
The council also approved a forgivable loan agreement from Tax Increment Financing District #5 to Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc. for facade improvements at their building at 330 West Broadway.
The council recognized the retirement of Chief Mechanic Al Wheaton after 25 years of service. Water Plant Operator John Wethington was recognized for five years of service.
