A 28-year-old Centralia woman has been arrested for arson following a late night fire at a Centralia home.
Centralia firefighters say Krystyne Kelley of 814 North Cherry allegedly set a pile of papers and wood on fire on the basement floor of the home where she had been staying. She reportedly set it using a lighter and nail polish removal.
Kelley then reportedly put out the fire before leaving and called the fire department.
They found a home full of smoke and searched the residence before determining the fire was out. The smoke was then removed from the residence with minimal damage. Since the fire had been set on the concrete basement floor, there was no structural damage.
Kelley was arrested when later returning to the home. The owner of the home, John Guern, was at work at the time the fire occurred.
The fire call came in at 10:06 Monday night. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour, including the arson investigation.
