State Police say a 37-year-old Effingham man died in the crash of a side-by-side vehicle north of the Vandalia Correctional Center in Fayette County late Saturday night.
The victim is identified as Stephen Mcevers.
Preliminary investigation indicates Mcevers was traveling west on East 2000th Avenue approaching US 51 when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the right side of the road, and struck a tree.
Mcevers was pronounced dead on the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
The crash was reported at 11:12 Saturday night.
