State Ride Inspectors are back at it again this summer.
As things return to pre-pandemic status, inspectors with the Illinois Department of Labor are out making sure rides are safe at theme parks, fairs and festivals. Director Michael Kleinik says they inspect rides ranging from roller coasters to mobile climbing walls and bounce houses.
“Inspectors look for all parts of the rides to make sure they meet the safety requirements. That includes electrical hydraulic systems, structural issues, corrosive restraint systems, fencing and patrons barriers. And if a ride does not meet standards then its shutdown until it’s corrected and inspected to make sure it meets standards.”
Kleinik says the public needs to do its part as well, following posted height and weight guidelines as well as safety rules.
