The 2021 Centralia High School Academic Pep Assembly saw a return to semi-normalcy as the school honored students and three faculty members at the annual event.
Senior Jazmyne Myers was Named winner of the Principal’s Award for 2021, while Senior Brooks Harlan received the Ernestine Foster Memorial Scholarship, named for long-time teach Ernestine Foster, who retired in 2010 and passed away in 2019.
Three teachers received the CHS “Making a Difference” awards: Kyle Blanchard, Math Teacher (Nominated by CHS Senior Olivia Beaver ); Katie Steffen, Math Teacher (Nominated by CHS Freshmen Megan Radake and Skyler Cooley-Koontz); and Mrs. Brittany Huff, Math Teacher (Nominated by CHS Sophomore Kierra Thacker).
225 Students were recognized by receiving one or more of the following awards (receiving a certificate and t-shirt):
Choice Award: Criteria include academic achievement, citizenship, school spirit, and attendance. Received through teacher nominations.
110% Award: Criteria include most improved, Best attitude, and participation. This award is not measured by academic achievement. Rather, it is based on students putting forth true effort to do their individual best. Received through teacher nominations.
Scholar Athletes: Students who maintain academic excellence by making the first honor roll while participating in CHS athletics.
Scholar Performers: Students who maintain academic excellence by making the first honor roll while participating in art, Band, chorus, dance team, and drama club.
AP Excellence: Students who scored a 3 or higher on the AP Exam last school year.
The CHS Renaissance Committee hosts the Academic Pep Assembly each year. According to a school press release, “the mission of the Renaissance program is to acknowledge the educational achievements and outstanding contributions made by students and staff members through a process of reinforcement, recognition, and reward. The committee is made up of volunteer CHS faculty and staff members and is led by the Student Activities Co-Directors Mrs.
Shannon Shipley and Mrs. Angela Stoecklin.”
