Salem Mayor Nic Farley has called for a planning session.
The request came as Amy Troutt was sworn in to serve the remainder of Farley’s term on the city council after he was elected Mayor in April.
With a full city council, Farley wants to plot the next two years.
“Jobs, the economy and housing. Those have to be the three things we address. How do we attract new people to the area, but how do we make sure we have enough qualified workforce for jobs we have here and how do we house them? I think those are the areas we really have to focus over the next two years.”
The planning session has been set for next Tuesday evening, May 25th at six pm at Salem City Hall. Department heads have been asked to bring their wish lists and needs for the next two years.
Troutt talked about her first meeting as a city council person.
“It feels good. I think I have a lot to learn but I can tell I’m surrounded by a good team of very competent and helpful people. So I’m excited.”
Troutt is Dean of Enrollment Services at Kaskaskia College.
