The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels soccer team fell to fourth-ranked Heartland Community College 4-1 at home as the Lady Hawks captured the Midwest Athletic Conference title and earned the top seed for next week’s NJCAA Region 24 Soccer Tournament.
KC kept Heartland off the scoreboard for nearly the first 31 minutes before the Lady Hawks found the net. Heartland then broke the game open in the second half, scoring three goals in a five-minute stretch to take control.
The Blue Angels avoided the shutout in the 83rd minute when Anna Muller scored off a through ball from Alea Ruiz to account for KC’s lone goal.
Kaskaskia will now turn its attention to the Region 24 Tournament, where the Blue Angels will open semifinal play next Friday at 2 p.m. against Lincoln Land Community College.
Meanwhile, the KC volleyball team will return to the court tonight, hosting Rend Lake College.
