Roger A. Reiss, age 84, of Carlyle, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
Roger was born in St. Peter, Illinois, on May 3, 1942, a son of Arthur and Bertha (Drews) Reiss. He married Nancy Mulvany in Farina, Illinois, on March 10, 1973. Nancy preceded him in death on May 12, 2015.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and was stationed at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Following his military service, Roger began a long career with Boeing, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He retired after 42 1/2 years of service.
Roger was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle, where he enjoyed volunteering and helping wherever he could. He was also a member of the St. Peter American Legion. In his free time, Roger enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and working jigsaw puzzles. He could fix anything and was always happy to lend a helping hand when needed. Roger loved listening to music, and his playlist had a little bit of everything, but gospel was his favorite. He loved coffee and had to start every day with a cup. He also loved food and was known to hop in the car to go try a new restaurant. Always a prankster, Roger was known to pick on people and give them a hard time, of course, all in good fun. If he picked on you, that meant he loved you! Most of all, Roger enjoyed the time spent with his family and the memories they made together.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Stacy Reed and husband David of Murphysboro, Illinois; his grandchildren, Lisa Fletcher and husband Jayson of Murphysboro, Clay Reed of Coulterville, Illinois, and Kimberly Ayres and husband Gryphon of Metropolis, Illinois; his great grandchildren, Chelsea Fletcher of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rebecca Fletcher and Alexis Fletcher of Evansville, Indiana, and Jaxson Reed of Vienna, Illinois; his brother, Randy Reiss and wife Linda of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; his sister, Marilyn Bousman and husband Richard of Menifee, California; his in laws, Larry and Jackie Mulvany of Mt. Zion, Illinois, and Pat Mulvany of Indiana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertha Reiss; his wife, Nancy Reiss; his brother, Roland Reiss; his parents in law, Oliver and Vera Mulvany; his in laws, Grace Eileen Norman and husband Charles, Ethel Marie Hites and husband Russel, and Lowell “Sonny” Mulvany; and two nieces, Barbara Ann Reiss and Michelle Hites.
Visitation will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1091 13th Street in Carlyle, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2026. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Timothy Chase officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.
