Robert Gruber, age 69, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Robert was born on February 12, 1957.
Robert will be remembered as a sweet and gentle soul who found happiness in the simple things in life. He enjoyed watching Western movies and listening to country music and had a special fondness for Elmo from Sesame Street. Robert also loved going on outings to the library and was an avid listener of audiobooks. He enjoyed sitting back and people-watching, especially taking pleasure in seeing others having a good time. His kind and gentle presence will be deeply missed by his staff and peers at Bryan Manor.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Denise Burke officiating. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
