Norene Coomer, age 91, of Salem, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.
Norene was born on September 12, 1934, in Argo, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Norma Wellbarn. She married Murrell Coomer, who preceded her in death.
Throughout her life, Norene had a natural gift for caring for others. She worked as a caregiver and devoted much of her life to helping and tending to those around her. Her compassionate nature made caring for others more than simply an occupation—it was a part of who she was.
Norene was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salem. She enjoyed the companionship of her cats and will be remembered by her family as a natural nurse and caregiver whose kindness was evident in the way she looked after both people and animals.
Norene is survived by her daughter, Norma Duff and husband Ron of Crown Point, Indiana, and her granddaughter, Karen Cassell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrell Coomer, and her parents, Thomas and Norma Wellbarn.
Visitation for Norene Coomer will be held at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, Illinois. Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
