The Centralia City Council approved a right-of-way license agreement for Wabash Communications to install fiber optic cable within Centralia city limits. Wabash Communications is planning to provide fiber optic internet service to residents and businesses in and around Centralia. The city will work with Wabash to approve permits throughout the process of installing fiber, which is expected to be completed by December 31.
An engineering agreement was approved with Milano and Grunloh Engineers for the Safe Routes to School Phase 2 Sidewalk project. The project will connect the sidewalks in front of Jordan School to the north along Country Club Road. This section is 800 feet. The total estimated cost of construction and engineering is estimated to be $279,237 with $250,000 to be awarded in federal grant funds. Phase 2 construction is expected to be completed following successful completion of Phase 1.
A resolution was passed approving a TIF #3 forgivable loan agreement to David Allen for façade improvements at 117 North Hickory, the business location of Allen and Geary Real Estate and Sharpe Energy, LLC. Improvements include siding and post repairs and replacement, replacement of shingle roofing with metal roofing and trim, and sealing of all windows and painting of the building.
The council renewed a line of credit for up to $500,000 with Midland States Bank that the city has had since 2012. The interest rate will be priced at the 6-month Secured Overnight Financing Rate plus an additional 1.9%. The line of credit currently has a zero balance and no immediate planned use.
A water sales agreement was approved between Centralia and Wamac, with Wamac’s previous 20-year water contract expiring this month. Under the new contract, the rate per thousand gallons is $4.26 per thousand and will increase annually with the Consumer Price Index each July 1.
Centralia Police Lieutenant Frank J. Rizzo was recognized with a service award for 25 years of service.
