Police Beat for Thursday, May 13th, 2021

A homeless Salem woman has been arrested on felony drug charges following a Wednesday night traffic stop by Salem Police on South Broadway. Tammy Williams was taken to the Marion County Jail for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of five to 15 grams of meth.

Four others were brought to the Marion County Jail on outstanding warrants. 21-year-old Joshua McWhirter of West Warmoth in Salem was arrested by Centralia Police on outstanding felony and traffic warrants. He remains in the Marion County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. 30-year-old Joshua Benjamin of South Cherry in Centralia was arrested by Wamac Police on a felony failure to appear in court warrant with bond set at $50,000. 29-year-old Christopher Carroll of North 8th in Vandalia has been transported by Highland Police to Madison County after being arrested on a felony failure to appear in court
warrant. 27-year-old Steven Whitaker of Lake Road in Carlyle posted $500 bond and was released on an outstanding Marion County misdemeanor failure to appear in court warrant.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary to a shed at a home on the 200 block of 2nd Street in Alma. The owner reported the lock was broken and several items were taken.
