The City of Centralia will hold public hearings on two grant proposals that will be submitted for funding in the fall.
A hearing has been set on Monday, August 24th, at 5:15 for a grant that would allow replacement of the water main from near the Walmart store on the city’s west side to the Kaskaskia College Water Tower. The line has been the subject of multiple breaks causing water outages for both the Centralia Correctional Center and Kaskaskia College that receives its water through the line. The public hearing is part of the requirements to qualify for a low interest loan from the IEPA Public Water Supply loan program.
The second hearing to be held on Monday, August 24th, at 5:30 for sidewalk improvements in the area around Route 161 and Pleasant Avenue. If funded at the state and federal level the project would encompass Gragg Street between Lincoln and Franklin, Cormick from Lincoln to Jackson, Rexford from Franklin to Pleasant, Route 161 from Pleasant Avenue to the easterly city limits, Lincoln Boulevard from Gragg Street to Cormick Street, Franklin from Gragg to Cormick and Rexford to Martin Lutheran King Junior Drive, Jackson from Cormick to Rexford and Pleasant from Rexford to Illinois, and Pleasant from Rexford to Illinois 161. The city intends to submit a grant request for the new sidewalks through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program by October 5th.
