Salem Franklin Park Middle School has a new Assistant Principal. Long time teacher Danette Wolfe was hired at Thursday night's by the Salem Grade School Board.
“I just completed my 20th year as a classroom teacher. I began my career at District 80 in Mt. Vernon and was then at Selmaville Grade School for 13 years. I’ve spent the past 5 years teaching 8th grade science at Franklin Park. It was very meaningful, having grown up a Bobcat, to be able to come back and teach in the district that gave so many opportunities to me as a child. Having a chance to step into a leadership role in this district is also an exciting opportunity for me.”
Having been a bobcat herself, Wolfe is excited for this new chapter in her life.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to step into a leadership role within our district. I look forward to continuing to support the students, staff, and families of Salem Elementary District 111 while working alongside a wonderful group of people.”
The board also acted on several other personnel issues. They accepted a letter of intent to retire from Denise McCormack at the end of the 2029-30 school year. The board approved the involuntarily transfer of Paige Saupe from sixth grade man to 5th grade science. The resignation of Brandi Starnes as a paraprofessional was approved.
The board held a public hearing on the budget for the fiscal year that ends June 30th. Superintendant Dr. Leslie Foppe says it will finish $1.5-million in the red, with surplus funds from past years to cover. She reported they were hit hard by the electric bill jumping to $219,000 and payments to Menta for some of the special education students increasing to $755,000. The district just expended $25,880 as a loan payment to the state for technology improvements.
A hearing will be held at the July meeting on the district’s e-learning plan. Foppe is not proposing any changes.
