Marion County Highway Engineer Alex Kreke is concerned about the radio tower at the highway garage that is now leaning towards one of their buildings and has had one of its guy wire supports break.
Kreke says the tower is so old and in poor shape he doesn’t think he’ll be able to get anyone to go on the tower to make repairs. Instead, he suggested to the Road and Bridge Committee of the county board Tuesday night that they look at taking down the tower. Due to the high expense of putting up a new tower, he is looking at installing a repeater on the 911 radio tower at the Fairgrounds that would be hooked up to the highway department’s current radio equipment. The estimated cost is $20,000.
Kreke says for now the issue is still in study.
In other action, the finance committee of the Marion County Board is recommending Bellweather be employed for another year to help the county board prepare the annual budget. They will be paid $12,000. Bellweather is already beginning to make contact with county office holders to begin budget preparations. The yearly budget has to be in place by December 1st.
