Statewide COVID positivity rate continues to decline; 4 new cases reported in Marion County over weekend and Monday

The statewide positivity rate for COVID-19 has dropped to its lowest level in over a month as a spike in cases, mostly in the northern part of the state, appears to be coming to an end.

The health department reports the positivity rate for the past seven days has dropped to 2.8-percent.   Over 35-percent of state residents are fully vaccinated.

1,424 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Monday along with 12 additional deaths.  All the deaths were in Cook or Peoria Counties.

The Marion County Health Department reported four new cases over the weekend and Monday.  None were long-term care residents.  One was a student who was not in school during their infectious period.   Two of the cases were considered community spread and two were the result of household or close contacts.   There are now 19 active cases that are in isolation.   No one is in the hospital.

Marion County’s positivity rate has increased to 1.2-percent compared to a half percent a week ago.   25-percent of Marion County or 9,477 residents are now fully vaccinated with 19,421 vaccinations completed.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting three new positive cases over the weekend and Monday.  There are currently 12 on home isolation and three in the hospital.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting four new positive cases over the three days.   There are currently ten on home isolation.

The Washington County Health Department has had three new active cases.  There are three currently in isolation and none hospitalized.

In its weekly update, the Fayette County Health Department is reporting 17 new cases.  Ten of those are children 14 and under.

The Wayne County Health Department is reporting three new positive cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.  There are 12 currently in isolation.
