The Marion County Board has a new member. Shawn Richards who resides in rural Salem was appointed to replace Tim McCance who resigned earlier when moving out of District Three. Richards was unable to be at Tuesday night’s meeting because of a family health issue. He had been sworn in earlier, pending county board approval. Richards is a retired Centralia Police Officer and is currently head of the Kaskaskia College Police Department.

County Board Chair Steve Whritenour says they following the county’s new procedure of placing the county board opening on the county’s website to determine interest. He said there was none for the county board or for four other appointments made by the board.

The other appointments included Steve Brummel to another two year term to the Marion County Farmland Assessment Committee, Don Decker to another three year term on the Odin Fire Protection District, James Somer to an additional three year term on the Salem Fire Protection District Board and Richard Day to another three year term on the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Board.
