A Memorial Day service was held in Centralia this past Memorial Day at the American Legion Post #446.

The ceremony began with a Posting of the American Flag colors. Following the flag colors, Scout Veller sang the national Anthem, then the Scouts of America led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mike Sutherland gave the welcome speech for the ceremony. Opening prayer and remarks were made, then a flag folding ceremony happened with an explanation of the 13 folds.

The Wreath laying ceremony had many wreaths lined along the stage from different co-host organizations placed by the sacred veteran’s shrine, honoring the fallen soldiers.

The keynote speaker was Dusty Meier, Veteran U.S. Marine Sargent.

“Today we gather to honor the great men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is much more than just a holiday. It is a solemn time to remember the courage, sacrifice, and devotion of those who defended our freedom to the very end. Because of their sacrifices, we enjoy liberties and opportunities we often times take for granted.”

Veller sang “God Bless America” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.   She was followed by the Benediction, and the Three Volley Salute with the Honor Guard. The ceremony was concluded with the Sounding of Taps.
