Residential trash pickup in Salem will run one day late this week, with no pickup on Monday, Memorial Day. Salem City offices will also be closed for the holiday.
In Centralia, garage pickup will be on the regular schedule on Monday and all of next week. Centralia City Offices will be closed.
Area courthouses, as well as most state and federal offices, will be closed on Monday. There will be no home mail delivery, and financial institutions will be closed.
A Memorial Day service is planned at the American Legion in Centralia at eleven am. It has been moved from Hillcrest Memorial Park due to the weather forecast. The keynote speaker is U.S. Marine Veteran, Sgt. Dusty Meier, who served from 1999 to 2004.
Your invited to honor veterans and our fallen men by joining a free Memorial Day Bike Ride that will start and end at the American Legion at 117 South Poplar. Those who want to participate should meet at the legion at nine am. There will be coffee and donuts for participants. Any type of vehicle is welcome. The riders will return in time for the Memorial Day program at the legion.
There is no Memorial Day Service in Salem this year because not enough help was available for the American Legion to host the traditional event at East Lawn Cemetery.
