The Salem High School Board has agreed to add video boards as part of an upgrade to the score boards in B.E. Gum Gymnasium.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the total cost of the project is $112,540.

“We’re looking at updating the end boards,” Detering said. “Not only will they be scoreboards, but they will also be video boards that will allow for videos of our students as well as interactive graphics that will occur during the contests that are going on in the game. It will also allow us to have advertisements in order to sell those ads and offset the cost of the project.

Detering says WILD News teacher Matt Donoho will oversee student video productions for the video boards.

Shot clocks will also be added as they will be required by the Illinois High School Association for basketball starting next fall.  Detering says if they would have just done the shot clock portion of the update the cost would have been $6,500.

The board approved a contract with Watchfire for the purchase of the video boards and McKean Solutions a $14,475 to install the boards.  Print Crazee in Nashville, IL was awarded a $12,687 contract to wrap and renovate the stage doors.  The floor chairs used by the teams will also be replaced.  The work is scheduled to be completed by the start of the next school year.

Detering told the board they are looking for another contractor to do work on the bus barn after a contractor scheduled to do the work has filed for bankruptcy.   The district will also be trying to recover the $11,000 already paid to the company.

The board also acted on several personnel issues.  Kendra Koch was employed as main office secretary.  Lance Boldt was hired as assistant boys basketball coach.  Zachary Smith was hired as a volunteer assistant soccer coach pending certification.
