Just weeks after stepping away from the program he helped turn into a winner, Josh Zink is back on the sidelines at North Clay — but this time, he’ll be leading the Lady Cardinals.

Zink officially resigned as the Cardinals head boys basketball coach following this past season, ending a nine-year run that featured consistent success and a rebuild that brought North Clay back into the conversation as a local power. In his resignation statement, Zink called the job “one of the greatest honors” of his life and said he felt the program was in a strong enough place to hand off to the next coach.

“I firmly believe the program is in a very strong place,” Zink said, adding that the foundation built over the years will allow the Cardinals to keep winning well into the future.

But for Zink, the break from coaching didn’t last long.

North Clay has now announced that Zink has accepted the position as the school’s new head girls basketball coach at his alma mater, taking over with the same goal he accomplished with the boys program — building something special. He’ll be assisted by Allison Czyzewski and Kim Adair, and the Lady Cardinals will hold a sign-up meeting tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at the school.

Zink said stepping away originally would allow him more time with family, but it’s clear the game — and North Clay — still had more in store.

One chapter may have ended, but the Cardinals story with Josh Zink is far from over.
