The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to approve seeking a grant to replace 400 legacy natural gas service lines installed several decades ago.  The copper service lines are no longer approved for contemporary natural gas distribution systems.  The presence of dissimilar materials, coupled with outdate and non-certified fittings, introduces elevated risks related to corrosion material degradation, joint failure, and long-term system integrity.  The grant would be made through the US Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

The council will also consider a second proposal for potential solar development on an additional portion of the landfill.  This is the first step in the process and the Lease Option proposed allows for AC Power to conduct due diligence and other necessary activities for the purpose of obtaining an interconnection agreement with Ameren.  The option would be for 24 months, with the first payment of $1,500 on the six-month anniversary of the date of the agreement and payment quarterly thereafter.  The project proposed is to generate up to 3 mega watts of power.  The initial proposal was for a payment of $14,000 per mega watt, but the city was able to negotiate the price per mega watt to $19,000.

The council will be asked to renew the employee health insurance through Healthlink/True RX as administered by PBA with no changes to deductibles or copayments.

The write off of past due utility accounts that have been submitted to Illinois Debt Recovery is being recommended.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
