A 31-year-old Centralia woman was arrested by Salem Police for felony retail theft and contributing to the delinquency of a child after Walmart asset protection attempted to stop three people with a cartload of unpaid-for items.
Salem Police say Megan Savage of South Pine ran from asset protection and a 15-year-old juvenile girl with her fled the store as well. A 16-year-old juvenile girl stayed behind and was able to give police the names of those involved.
A Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to stop the car Savage was leaving the store on Baldridge Drive.
Police estimate the stolen items at over $600. The three reportedly had gone through the self-checkout but rang up only one small item before attempting to leave the store.
After questioning, Savage was taken to the Marion County Jail to await formal charging while the two juveniles were released after being given trespass notices not to return to the store.
The incident occurred at 12:22 Saturday afternoon.
