A 29-year-old Salem man who attempted to pull a hammer out of his waistband when Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to arrest him Thursday night has been ordered held without bond.
Dustin Taylor of Hotze Road also faces new charges in connection with the arrest on Marion, Jefferson, and Macon County felony failure-to-appear warrants, as well as unrelated burglary and theft charges from a February 16th incident in Salem.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps said deputies went to a gaming parlor when being tipped Taylor would be there. Taylor was reportedly wearing a ski mask and went for the hammer when he was being taken into custody. During the ordeal, a tasor was pulled to help get Taylor handcuffed. He was taken to Salem Township Hospital to be checked before going to the Marion County Jail.
Taylor was formally charged with resisting or obstructing a peace officer and obstructing identification in connection with the warrant arrest and residential burglary, burglary, and felony theft for entering a home in the 300 block of Porter Street. The occupant said he returned home and found a window on his porch broken out to gain entry. Taylor is accused of taking a guitar valued at under $500, but the charge was a felony due to a past conviction.
Salem Police later learned that Taylor had sold the guitar, and the buyer confirmed he had purchased it from a man named Dustin.
Taylor was ordered held without bond until the preliminary hearing in his cases, which is set for March 24th. A public defender was appointed to represent Taylor.
