The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approved a resolution at Monday night’s meeting to keep tuition and fee rates the same for the next academic year. Under the terms of the resolution, tuition for in-district students during the 2026-2027 school year will remain at 166 dollars per credit hour, which includes 140 dollars per credit hour for tuition plus 26 dollars in mandatory fees.
KC President George Evans says the college faces rising costs just like everybody else, but school officials try to keep tuition rates steady when they can.
“Obviously, you see across the board with inflation and just the cost of living, gas, the whole nine yards, we don’t think that this year was the right time to put it on the backs of our students. We’re very cognizant of that. Can we do it every year? Probably not, but this year we can make things work, as we obviously are trying to be as fiscally responsible as possible, knowing that down the road there may have to be some small, modest increases just to keep up with inflationary costs, but this year we were able to stretch it out one more year.”
For out-of-district students, the total credit hour rate including fees will stay at 265 dollars per credit hour next school year. Out-of-state and international tuition will total 425 dollars per credit hour, and the out-of-district, out-of-state, and international online tuition rate will total 176 dollars per credit hour.
In personnel action on Monday, the board of trustees accepted the retirement of Linda Still as administrative assistant for Career and Technical Education, effective June 30th, and accepted the resignation of assistant professor of biology Marcus Abston, effective May 18th. The board also approved the hiring of Robert Meyer as a building and grounds technician, with a pending start date of March 23rd.
