A renovation has been approved by the Marion County Board for the former law library area on the third floor of the courthouse.
Marion County Resident Circuit Court Judge Mark Stedelin and County Clerk Tiffany Schicker made the proposal. Schicker says Shores Construction in Centralia will be doing the work in the near future that is only expected to take a day or two to complete.
“Currently there are four offices. Two of them are permanent offices, and two of them were built as temporary offices when the states’ attorney’s office was being remodeled,” Schicker said. “Previously, it had been used for meeting or conference rooms, and we’d like to restore it to that previous function. Right now, with the drywall and outdated carpet, there are three different colors of carpet in there, it is not a great functional space. We need to do some work to bring it up to a usable space, and that is what we are planning to do.”
The cost of the improvements will be $13,240. A judge’s fund will pay for $3,240 of the cost, with the rest coming from the county’s building fund.
Schicker says right now attorneys and clients are utilizing the jury room when it is available, with sometimes more than one conference being held around the one large table.
