Centralia City Manager Galen Mahle says new three-year contracts before the Centralia City Council Monday night would give big starting pay increases to police patrolmen and telecommunicators. Mahle says the goal is to stop the number leaving the positions after three or four years and making the city more competitive with other agencies.
The proposals before the council would increase the starting pay for patrolmen from $57,604 a year to $63,508 a year. Telecommunicators will see their pay increase from $19.41 an hour to $50,581 a year. Additional large increases for telecommunicators in the second and third year of the contract are also included to catch them up with other departments.
Mahle says work continues on three other union contracts for police command, firefighters, and public works employees. All expired at the end of the year.
The council will receive an update from Milano and Grunloh Engineers, LLC on public works projects and grants they are handling for the city.
South Central Regional Planning and Development will present an interactive map that shows zoning, TIF, and Enterprise Zone locations to make it easier to see areas available for new businesses in the city.
A resolution approving a forgivable loan agreement from the downtown TIF district to RE: Purpose Development LLC for facade improvements for 117 East Broadway will be considered.
Two resolutions approving agreements with Metro-Ag, Inc to remove and transport water treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant residues are also up for agreement.
The council will be asked to waive the speed limit on Raccoon Lake for the 2026 boat races by the National Boat Racing Association.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
