The Salem City Council Tuesday night will consider several resolutions and engineering service agreements for the resurfacing of a portion of West Whitaker Street and other improvements to the roadway.
The council will be asked to authorize the use of Federal Aid Urban Highway Funds for the work from Whitaker to South Pearl to South Broadway and from Delmar to South College and to approve engineering agreements with Gonzalez Companies, LLC for reconstruction of Whittaker from South Pearl to South Broadway and the resurfacing, pavement patching, sidewalk ramp improvements and other miscellaneous work on Whitaker from Delmar to South College.
The council will be asked to approve an extension of the Sunrise Sanitation Contract for residential trash collection services. Owner Kristie Blackman is requesting a contract extension with a five percent increase January 2029 and again in January 2030. The council will also consider a contract addendum to add a second city wide cleanup. The cost to the city for the second cleanup would increase 62-cents per residential household per month.
A contract with Jack Riley to empty and return the recycling trailer to its location on North Broadway twice a week to keep recycling in Salem is also on the agenda.
The council will be asked to concur with two special use permits approved by the planning commission. One would allow continued residential and commercial use of a building at 110 Delmar that is zoned B-3. The second would allow a business to continue using 730 North Broadway Avenue that is in a residential district.
The city council will be asked to approve a 25-year Development Term agreement with AC Power that was awarded a bid in January of last year to install a solar field at the closed Salem Landfill. It sets a price the company will pay the city based on the amount of electricity produced. There is an option for five-year extensions following the 25-year term.
The meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Salem City Hall, one day later than usual due to the Dr. King Holiday on Monday.
