The Greenview Golf Course in Centralia will undergo a million dollars in improvements over the next three years.

Owner Steve Whritenour took the major step to hire Turf Guru of St. Louis to complete the upgrades and take over maintenance of the course.

“What I needed to do was not just the everyday grass cutting, but I needed to make the course better,” Whritenour said. “In this agreement with them, there are going to be different chemical applications that are going to be applied, and some reseeding that needs to be done. We are going to do work on the tee boxes, the fairways, the greens, and we’re going to have Greenview in much better condition in a very short period of time.”

Whritenour says there will also be work on the bunkers.  He notes the staff is very excited as they want to put rumors behind them that the golf course has been sold or being converted to a solar field.

Whritenour says Turf Guru also provides maintenance for seven other golf courses allowing it to buy specialized equipment that is too expensive for a single golf course to purchase.

Whritenour says the status of the now closed restaurant is uncertain.

“We’re more focused on the golf side than on the restaurant side,” Whritenour said. “As of right now it’s closed for the season. We’ll see what the spring brings.”

Whritenour notes word of the improvements to the golf course resulted in over 100 attending the annual open house last weekend, up from the normal 30 to 40.  Whritenour says they are getting calls from others.  Those with questions can call (618) 532-7395 or leave them on the Greenview Golf Course Facebook Page.
