One person was injured in a fire in Vernon early Monday morning.
Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde says the fire was in a two car garage that was converted into a residence at 124 North Elm west of Joyce’s Cafe. The occupant, Erik Hubbert, had gotten out of the home before firemen arrived, but apparently received burns to his hands trying to put out the fire.
Hubbert was checked on the scene by Patoka EMS, but went to the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia via private vehicle.
Hyde says the fire had already gone through the roof upon the arrival of firemen. The roof eventually collapsed into the home, leaving only the outside walls standing.
Hyde called in the State Fire Marshal’s office to try and determine the cause of the fire.
Sandoval Firemen responded on automatic mutual aid.
The fire call came in just before five Monday morning with firemen on the scene for just under two hours.
