The Marion County Board has named its first Animal Control Administrator.
Board Chair Steve Whritenour says Whitney Purcell of Salem is being hired in connection with the county’s purchase of the Centralia Animal Control Facility as its new animal pound.
“Getting ready to take on our new animal shelter, obviously there are a lot more responsibilities that go along with that,” Whritenour said. “Now having an administrator and a full-time warden, they can start hiring some part-time help, start getting some people in there. We can get our shelter up and running, and we’re off and going.”
Whritenour says Purcell will be part-time and will be paid $8,000 a year in the position.
Whritenour believes they are getting closer to finalizing the memorandum of understanding that will allow the county to begin operating in the former Centralia facility.
