A 20-year-old Centralia man was arrested when a Centralia Police officer broke up a burglary in progress early Saturday morning at the Blue Goose Liquor Store in Wamac.
Wamac Police Chief Steve Prather says a man later identified as Steward Stumbaugh was seen running from the building after Centralia Police responded to a burglar alarm for Wamac Police.
The officer was able to chase and capture Stumbaugh who was arrested for burglary, criminal damage to property, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.
Wamac Police report entry was gained by throwing a large rock through a window. An estimated $4,000 to $5,000 in damage to the building was reported along with another $1,000 in damage to the cash register.
The alarm sounded at 4:06 Saturday morning.
