Jackie D. Smith, age 88, formerly of Centralia, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and a well-lived life through honest work and simple pleasures.
Jack, son of Ernest E. Smith and Grace Timmons Smith, was born in Centralia, Illinois, on July 5, 1937. This is where he learned the value of hard work, raised a family, and built life-long friendships that he cherished. Jack was well respected and lived most of his life in Centralia, Illinois. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, then to Sun City, Arizona, with his wife, Barb, and enjoyed retirement to the fullest.
Jack had three daughters from a previous marriage to Sandra Hindman. He married Barbara Lowe in 1978, and she survives. His children are Cindie Orr (Ty), Beth White (Jeff), and Lori Murray, along with stepchildren Belinda Johnson (Drew), and Bradley Barton. Grandchildren include Blake Dukes (Jamie), Zak White (Becca), Brice Sligar (Marjohn), Tyler White (Alli), Blaine Murray (Alexis), Gabby Helton (Ben), and Loganne Massey. Great children include Brylee Dukes (Carson), Addy Dukes, Cole Henton, Savannah, Ava, and Charli White. Flinn White, Morgan and Cody Sligar, Axel and Ace Murray, and another great child arriving in April of 2026. Jack was proud of each one of his family members.
Jack demonstrated unwavering dedication and a tireless commitment to his work. Jack and his brother owned a ready-mix cement plant that thrived within the community. His lifelong passion was softball and bowling. He was known for his enduring reliance and constant faithfulness.
Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, daughters and families, stepdaughter and family, and stepson, as well as sister Delores Miller, Bea “Sis” Owens (Gene), brother Don Smith, sister-in-law Shirley Smith, Mary Smith, Karen Robbins, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Grace; his sister, Judy Hopper; his brothers, Jim Smith, Dick Smith, and Gary Smith; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Miller.
Per his personal wishes, no services will be provided at this time. Any donations may be sent to Tunnel of Towers in his name. A cause that Jack was passionate about.
