A winter edition of the Hungry Hearts Program is planned during the long winter break for students this year.
Marilyn Lewis, who heads the program, says with kids scheduled to be out of school for eleven days and what seems to be a growing number of young people with food insecurities, a need was seen the group wanted to address.
Lunch will be provided on December 22nd and 23rd, December 26th and 29th, and on January 2nd. Pickup will be the same as in the summer, from 11 to 11:20 am at the entrance to Salem Mobile Home Park, Salem Community Center, Bryan Bennett Library, the old Armory parking lot, Marion County Housing at Seneff and Trenary, and at the Grace United Methodist Church.
Lewis says local churches have provided funding for the winter Hungry Hearts program. She says they have a number of volunteers, but anyone else who wants to help can call her at (618) 308-0793.
