Janice F. Featherstone, 88, of Salem, passed away at her home on November 28th, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on November 22nd, 1937, to Harry and Lillian (Barding) Edmison in Woodlawn, Illinois. She would marry the love of her life, Dale Featherstone, on August 16th, 1957, and they would spend 60 amazing years together.
She is survived by two daughters: Lori Ryan and husband Mike of Salem and Lisa Marcum and husband Scott of Salem; five grandsons: Jason Ryan of Salem, Tyson Ryan and wife Lynsey of Jacksonville, Quinton Marcum and wife Amber of Centralia, Bryn Marcum and wife Alex of Centralia, and Blake Featherstone of Centralia; one granddaughter: Randi Marcum of Salem; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Lillian Edmison; husband: Dale Featherstone; son: Darren Featherstone; grandson: Dustin Ryan; granddaughter-in-law: Emilie Ryan; great-granddaughter: Madelyn Ryan; and sister: Evelyn Huston.
Janice was a proud member of the Evergreen Christian Church in Salem. She worked at the Raccoon Water Company for 24 years as a secretary. She enjoyed making baskets and teaching others the craft; she even gave lessons at her home. She taught her basket making at Silver Dollar City for 10 years, Leisure Camp in Kentucky for 28 years, and the Homemakers Camp. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family and special friends, Sandy McPhail Green and Kenny Bauer.
Cremation rites will be accorded, per her wishes. A graveside service will be held on December 12th, 2025, at 11:00 at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin with Pastor Claude Howell and Pastor Shannon Bopp officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evergreen Christian Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the service or at Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, PO Box 97, Salem, Illinois 62881.
